Overview

     
Evogene's technological platform provides computational gene and promoter discovery capabilities as well as model and target plant transformation capabilities, coupled with standard and unique plant selection systems used in greenhouses and under field conditions. This platform enables rapid discovery and validation of novel genes, promoters and molecular markers with high relevance to the trait of choice which are further introduced into elite commercial crops through partnerships with leading seed companies. To date, this platform has produced pending IP rights to over 1500 novel genes validated in plants, relating to key plant traits.

Evogene's core competence is derived from its proprietary state of the art computational gene discovery platform (The "ATHLETE" platform - Agro Traits Harvest LEeads TEchnology). The unique capabilities of this novel platform have already been recognized by leading industry players. The "Athlete" platform enables the production of 50-100 novel genes with high relevance to the trait of choice within 6 to 9 months. Additional selection systems and model and plant transformation are used for further prioritization and validation.

Key Principles of Our Technological Approach

Unique In Silico gene discovery
The use of advanced computational tools to organize, refine, enrich, mine and prioritize vast amounts of genomic data allows the identification of novel genes which cannot be discovered using standard bioinformatic tools and wet lab techniques.

Comparative genomics based gene discovery
We believe that comparative genomics, harnessing the valuable information available in the evolutionary processes that all plants underwent, is a strong approach for gene discovery. Our computational database includes more than 70 plant species and over 8 Million expressed sequences.



Rapid gene identification and prioritization
Rapid computational gene discovery and tailor made model systems suitable for gene prioritization enable our trait development projects to produce 3-5 leading candidate genes suitable for introduction into target plants within 1.5-2 years.

Utilizing naturally available genomic diversity
We believe that altering the expression patterns of genes available in the plant genome and using superior promoters to build expression constructs enables significant enhancement of plant features.
